The bobsleigh two man event
Prior going to the games the two man Team had finished 6th in Altenberg, Germany.
The first day of training Martin and Marcus would do one run each. Martin doing the first run and Marcus doing the second run. This was the only day that other crew members would push, Dan would push for the rest of the week and the two race days. It would be a tough week for Dan but it was the way his training program was structured. Lee and Dan would push hard all week in preparation for the race. Martin and Karl spent numerous hours after the training sessions with Tom-de-la-hunty making sure the sled was running straight and that the steering was aligned ready for the next day. The weather during the week was absolutely fantastic but all that was about to change. The day of the race and i have never seen so much snow fall before.
Snow can be a bobsleighers worse nightmare or best friend. If it snows all day then the first few sleds have light snow but then it gets thicker and thicker and slows the track down. Sometimes it can snow at the start and then stop this tends to favour the later drawn sliders as the snow is not a hindrance. However it was to snow all day long, the first few sleds have snow but it fell and fell making the track become slower and slower. When you look at the runs that Lee had they were good but the snow was the killer.
It was slightly disappointing, especially after the 6th place result at Altenberg. So it was time to move on to the blue ribbon event of the winter Olympics the four man race.

WINTER OLYMPICS 2006 - The Opening Ceremonies.

We were at the Olympic village in Turin, Italy getting ready for the opening ceremonies. We putting on our gangster suits, we were head to foot dressed in black, trilby hats and long black jackets. The other Teams said they wanted to exchange their kit for ours. Sorry not a chance, we looked good.

we moved from the Olympic village in Turin to the ice hockey stadium which is where we all meet before the opening ceremonies began. Everyone was buzzing round like bees, chatting to friends and colleagues as this was the first time we had met as we had all been at holding camps before we moved to the Olympic Village.

Eventually they started to call the countries forward in there order before they walked to the stadium next door where the opening ceremonies was being held. as we walked outside of the ice hockey rink towards the stadium you could hear the crowd roaring as Countries entered the Stadium. We lined up ready to go in, as they called Great Britain you heard the crowd roar and camera flashes went all over the place the noise was deafening. We walked round the stadium waving at the crowd and taking photos of the experience. Eventually we finished our circle then looped under the stadium and into the middle of the stadium where we were seated for the rest of the opening ceremonies. When Italy the host nation came in the crowd went mental. It was fantastic.

Then we had the national anthem and Olympic anthem, the opening statement and raising of the flags. then the torch came into the stadium. They ran straight past us you could of touched the flame with your hand, that's how close we were.

Then they lit the flame, for us athletes all we saw was the tower off the flame light up and then the flame ignite. However after watching it on Video you go to see what really happened and it was spectacular.
I really enjoyed it when the ferrari F1 racing car came to life that was amazing. To top it all off Pavarotti sang a song at the very end of the opening ceremony.

We then left the stadium, headed back to the village and had a McDonalds. It was a fantastic night, I hope the 2010 games at Vancouver, Canada can better that.
